Compression mould for Fiber reinforced plastic

Join Date: 2020-04-18

Fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) is a composite material made of fiber reinforced polymer matrix. The fibers are usually glass (in glass fibers), carbon (in carbon fiber reinforced polymers), etc. Glass fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) uses glass fiber and its products (glass cloth, ribbon, felt, yarn, etc.) as reinforced materials. The strength and modulus of the matrix are much lower than fiber, but it can withstand large stainless. FRP is also called glass fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP). Fiberglass is commonly used in aerospace, automobile, ship and construction industries.

Fiberglass-reinforced plastic (FRP) is an engineered composite material made from resin-reinforced fiberglass. It looks similar to fiberglass because of its insulating and flexible body, but has many advantages over typical fiberglass, including:

  • Added Strength - FRP can be used in applications where standard fiberglass is not sufficient. This includes areas of high stress, such as structural supports or load-bearing members.
  • Improved Corrosion Resistance - The addition of polyester resin provides superior protection from exposure to weathering, moisture and chemicals.
  • Lower cost - FRP material is less expensive than traditional composites because it takes less time to manufacture and less material is used in the manufacturing process.

In the field of fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) molding, molds are an indispensable tool for the production of FRP, which can be used to make various FRP products such as:

  • Crank Pulley Mould
  • Exhaust pipe mold
  • Motorcycle/Motorcycle Parts Cylinder Head Mould

FRP Compression mould is one kind of FRP mould, the advantages of the compression mould are high dimensional accuracy, good performance, smooth surface and less burrs. The production efficiency is high and it is convenient to achieve specialization and automation of production. It can be molded at one time for complex par, but not suitable for very large FRP composite products.

For FRP mould, the choice of material directly affects the performance of the final product. Therefore, there are some requirements when selecting mould steel.

  • A. High strength, abrasion resistance and high temperature resistance
  • B. Good cutting and surface polishing effects
  • C. Higher heat resistance and smaller thermal deformability;
  • D. Good corrosion resistance;
  • E. Small thermal deformation and good dimensional stability.

Compression moulding process of FRP

FRP molding is the process of using heat and pressure to form a formable material into a desired shape. The process involves heating the material to its softening/plasticizing temperature and applying pressure as it is pressed into the mold. Firstly, the pretreated plastic is put into an open heating cavity of the mould. Then FRP mould is closed and pressure is applied to force the FRP material to fill the cavity. Hydraulic pressing machine are usually used to generate sufficient force in the molding process. Keeping the heat and pressure until the FRP solidifies. This FRP molding is typically used for high-volume production of parts that require high strength and stiffness. However, the process can be used for low-volume production of certain materials.

As a professional compression mould manufacturer, MDC specialties in glass fiber compression mold. With the development of the industry, there are a variety of glass fiber compression mould, the performance is also improving. Advantages of MDC FRP mould:

  1. 1. It can make full use of raw materials and reduce the loss to less than 5%.
  2. 2. Reduce the deformation of the product.
  3. 3. MDC through some special processes to reduce the wear rate and maintenance cost of the cavity.
  4. 4. Because the size of the products that can be formed by the glass fiber mould is only determined by the press ,power and clamping plate of machine, it can make large flat products.
  5. 5. According to the experience, MDC can produce multi cavity mould to improve the efficiency and reduce production cost.
  6. 6. The mold state is stable and the pressed product has good repeatability. Due to the characteristics of FRP material, the shrinkage of the product is relatively small.
  7. 7. The FRP mould can be designed completely according to the customer's press and on-site production conditions, which is convenient for the realization of specialized and automatic production with high production efficiency.
  8. 8. MDC fully uses high-speed milling, five axis milling and other modern processing equipment to complete the production of FRP mould, with high mould precision and accurate grasp of product size.
  9. 9. MDC can make the mold cavity reach the standard of mirror polishing, the surface of the product is bright and clean, without secondary decoration.
  10. 10. It can form products with complex structure in one time.

MDC has a complete set of FRP mould pressing production line and various FRP mould processing equipment, such as high-speed milling, deep hole drilling and five axis processing equipment, 1250t, 3000t, 4000t press machine, etc. MDC can meet the molding pressure demand of customers from 200t to 4000t or above and also the production requirements of various large and Super Large FRP products can be realized

MDC Mould is a professional manufacturer of FRP mould in China.
